Hiking Food: Peanut Butter Balls

Welcome! Please subscribe to our free outdoors newsletter. Thanks for visiting!

I am a hiker, I love walking and it requires nothing more than your body and some decent hiking shoes and there is always someplace to go. Whether in your backyard, a nature preserve (my favorite) or some of our local parks it is often. But if you’re more of a seasoned hiker and take extended trips you may also like to bring small snacks with you to give you little boots of energy throughout your trip. So here is my first recipe that is a favorite and is likely to become one of yours as well:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 cup dry milk
  • 1 cup uncooked oatmeal
  • Wheat germ

Directions: At home, combine peanut butter and honey. Gradually stir in dry milk and oatmeal. Shape into balls and roll in wheat germ. Let “dry” several hours on wax paper. Wrap individually in plastic wrap.

  1. Sounds awesome. I’ll give it a try one of these days.

  2. Hey Jesse,
I’ve tried a similar recipe and I must say that they are always a git on a hike! Great for keeping energy levels up or just as a snack! Thanks for your Basic Trail mix recipe, will be trying it on my next hike – M&M’s, who would have thought! Great idea!
